Oneplus launched its another flagship on 14 April 2020. Due to COVID 19, this was not a traditional launch however the company managed to launch the product successfully and the best YouTubers were able to use the device for a detailed review. Basis my first impression, here are my thoughts on Oneplus 8 Pro.
When the company launched its new flagship Oneplus 8 Pro, the approach was very different from its previous generation phones such as 7 Pro or 6T. Oneplus is not eying big and wants to give tough competition to leading flagship brands such as Apple, Samsung or Huawei. Earlier Oneplus was criticized for not including top-notch features such as wireless charging or IP rating, with Oneplus 8 Pro, the company clearly showed its future path. Oneplus 8 Pro included Wireless charging and not just wireless charging, the company opted for the best-case scenario and included Oneplus included 30 W wireless charging.
It clearly shows the Oneplus approach now, they do not want to just achieve, they want to achieve with perfection. You name any top-notch feature, they added in Oneplus 8 Pro. Did people want an IP rating? Oneplus added. Did people want Wireless charging? They added. Better camera? They added.
Talking about major features, Oneplus 8 Pro has one of the best display exist in the market. Oneplus 8 Pro features 10-bit display hence display has 1024*1024*1024 (Red Green Blue) colors. The Phone is powered with Snapdragon 865 with 5G capabilities, LPDDR 5 RAM. Again you name any feature they have it now. As a tech reviewer and a tech enthusiast, I am impressed with the approach this time. but but but there is a catch.
Oneplus was known for value, right? You name any Oneplus starting from Oneplus One till 7 series, all of them were value beast and were true value king, but this time Oneplus 8 Pro is not cheap by any means. Oneplus starts with USD 899 and now it can be considered as a true flagship. I remember, people waiting for Oneplus so they can get the best internals by paying less than a lot of flagships, now the case is different and if you want Oneplus, it will tighten your pocket.
Looking at numbers and performance, yes Oneplus 8 Pro nailed it and it is a true flagship phone, however, the company lost its track of delivering value to the customers for which the brand was known.
Just to give a highlight of the performance, The phone has SD 865, LPDDR 5 RAM, UFS 3.0 storage, IP 68, Wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, 1440* 3168 Pixels 10-bit display, Quad Camera setup (it seems great and can be compared with iPhone 11 series camera setup, however, iPhone will deliver much better video recording quality). The phone has a bigger primary camera sensor (48 MP, f/1.8, 25mm (wide), 1/1.43″, 1.12µm, omnidirectional PDAF, Laser AF, OIS) this time, provides better photos
One of the main highlights of the phone is its display it is a 120 Hz refresh rate display so the overall experience will be buttery smooth. Overall it is loaded with all excellent features and will not disappoint you. Surely the phone is a flagship phone and will give a great fight to Samsung S20 Series and iPhone 11 Series, however, it is not value-centric anymore.
There is an exception, which is Indian Pricing, which makes the above statement a bit incorrect. Oneplus 8 starting price in India is INR 41999 and for Pro model it is INR 54999, which make this deal pretty good, and you are getting what you pay for.
