Recently Google launched two new phones Pixel 4 and 4XL and upgraded their pixel line up, both the phones are flagship phones are very expensive too. The phones have good performance, cameras, however, there is a lot to talk about the phone this time.

The phones are powered with Snapdragon 855, here is the first thought, when the market is running 855+, Pixel launched phones with an outdated processor with flagship pricing, this is the first mistake I feel Google made. I am not denying the fact that SD 855 is a good processor but it does not justify the price tag of USD 900 in Q4 2019.

Google launched Pixel 4 and 4XL without Wide Angle Lens, which is a mainstream feature nowadays with flagships, be it iPhone 11 series or Galaxy S11 lineup. Google also designed these phones in an odd way, where there is no symmetry from the top and bottom of the phone. The head of the phone is large and chin is slim, which looks odd (can be a personal preference too). Both the cameras perform excellently and match the performance of the iPhone 11 series. There is a face unlock feature and this is the only authentication mechanism in Pixel 4 and 4XL. The face unlock works with advance 3D mapping (similar to iPhone’s Face ID), however currently there is a bug, where the phone opens with closed eyes too, the same can be fixed easily and Goole will patch it soon. Overall face unlock is a welcoming feature.

As per YouTuber Jerry Rig Everything, These phones are not well built too, however, not the complete failure, but a customer will except strong build phones by paying USD 900 or above. Displays of these phones are great, and Google used AMOLED panels which provide deep black and whites, however, I feel the 90 HZ display feature looks gimmicky to me, it is not well implemented as it does on Oneplus 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro.

The major setback of the Pixel 4 is its battery, which is just 2800 mAh. Are you seriously Google? In 2019 should we get 3800 mAh? It is very low and this is a deal-breaker for most of the customers. The Pixel 4XL still has a decent battery (3700 mAh). Overall if I summarize, Pixel 4XL is still a good phone, but you can get better options by paying less, but Pixel 4 is a big disappointment.

Google is a great company and can do wonders with their products, but this time Google got it all wrong, the improvement they showed in Pixel 3, increased the expectations with Pixel 4 lineup, I hope they come up with an amazing product next year and learn from the customer’s sentiments and mistakes they made this time. If you are a Google fan and want the best android experience, fast Android updates and long term software support you can get the phone, however, if you are a power user I would not recommend Pixel 4, but you can get Pixel 4XL. Thanks for reading the article, stay tuned for the next one.
