HMD Global owned Nokia, recently launched a lot of phones in various markets, the major launches are Nokia 7.2, Nokia 6.2 and recently launched Nokia 8.1. None of the products did well in the market, let’s understand the reason behind it.

The main issue with Nokia is the delayed adoption of the latest trend. Nokia recently launched Nokia 7.2 with Snapdragon 660 processor, which has Kryo 260 CPU (an older version). The marker has amazing mid-range processors such as SD 665, 675, 712, 730 and these are the newer chipsets with efficient cores and better clock speed except SD 665.

Nokia was known for its durability and strong materials used in phones, however, with Nokia 7.2, the company provided a phone with plastic sides (the back is glass), do not get me wrong the phone is still very strong, but it does not look premium as Nokia phones used to look.

The phone can still run day to day tasks smoothly, but Nokia should have gone with the newer chips, and if Nokia had gone with SD 712 or 675 the phone would have performed amazing. Now if I talk about Nokia 6.2, a phone with SD 636, which was used with Nokia 6.1 Plus too, so basically the same story as Nokia 7.2.

There are positives also with these phones such as good cameras, amazing software, however, the market is ruthless these days, companies such as Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo are providing amazing valued products to customers and if Nokia will not change the strategy company will not perform well.

The company did a great job with Nokia 8.1 but launched with a premium price, and recently the price of Nokia 8.1 was reduced to INR 15 k and the phone suddenly started doing well. The company should learn from these cases. Nokia has to become more aggressive.

I believe Nokia has a lot of potentials and can provide great hardware to customers. The company has an amazing track record of providing updated on time, Nokia just needs to focus on value delivery and products will sell great. I hope we see great products with better value delivery to customers in the future. Thanks for reading the article, stay tuned to the next one.
